The latest in our series of catalog reissues from the Varse Sarabande archives is Maurice Jarre's symphonic score for the comedy Top Secret! The third feature by the madcap writing/directing team of Milwaukee refugees Jim Abrams and brothers David and Jerry Zucker may have been a box office disappointment especially in the wake of 1980's Airplane! -- yet '84's Top Secret! nonetheless developed a loyal cult following who found charm in its often deliberately loopy plot incoherence. A seamless evocation of B-movie intrigue, vintage swash-buckling clichs and familiar romantic interludes, |

Maurice Jarre's orchestral score plays it deadly straight, a musically ironic '80s comedy tradition launched by Elmer Bernstein on John Landis' Animal House and later refined by Bernstein for his work on the wildly successful Zucker-Abrams-Zucker disaster film spoof, Airplane! (among others). Recorded by no less an orchestra than London's Royal Philharmonic, the broadly scored comedy has long been one of our most requested catalog titles and we are pleased to finally bring it to the faithful fans who have written us.Limited Collector's Edition of 1000 Copies |
