La colonna sonora di “Kill!” è un concentrato di groove, tensione e psichedelia, firmata da Berto Pisano, con la collaborazione di Jacques Chaumont. È un esempio brillante di come la musica italiana per il cinema degli anni ’70 riuscisse a fondere jazz, funk, rock e sperimentazione in un linguaggio unico, adatto tanto alla scena quanto all’ascolto autonomo.

Il film, diretto nel 1971 da Romain Gary, è un thriller internazionale dal tono esotico e ambiguo, girato in parte in India. Racconta una storia di mistero e doppio gioco: la protagonista, interpretata da Stephen Boyd, è un ufficiale inglese in missione segreta coinvolto in un intreccio di spionaggio, tradimenti e omicidi, in un contesto coloniale decadente e sensuale.

La colonna sonora riflette perfettamente questa atmosfera ambigua e seducente. Pisano e Chaumont si muovono tra funk sporco e teso, con chitarre wah-wah, bassi pulsanti e batterie incalzanti, momenti lounge e jazzati, che evocano ambienti sofisticati e decadenti, linee orchestrali misteriose, con archi inquietanti e fiati velati, incursioni psichedeliche, tra organi distorti e strumenti esotici che richiamano l’ambientazione indiana.

Il tema principale è magnetico: una linea di basso sinuosa, un groove ipnotico e un mood sospeso tra il noir e l’erotico. La musica riesce a mantenere alta la tensione narrativa, ma al contempo è estremamente ascoltabile da sola, con un sapore da vinile rare groove che ha reso questa colonna sonora molto ricercata dai collezionisti.

Per anni quasi introvabile, “Kill!” è stata rivalutata come uno degli esempi migliori del sound italiano per il cinema di spionaggio e exploitation. La sua capacità di evocare un mondo fatto di intrighi, lussuria e pericolo con pochi accordi è sorprendente.

Oggi, la riscoperta del lavoro di Pisano e la riedizione in vinile ha riportato alla luce un piccolo capolavoro di funk cinematografico oscuro e affascinante.

Long considered nearly impossible to find, “Kill!” has since been re-evaluated as one of the finest examples of Italian scoring for spy and exploitation cinema. Its ability to evoke a world of intrigue, lust, and danger with just a few notes is truly impressive.
