UN SACCO BELLO

Un sacco bello rappresenta il debutto cinematografico di Carlo Verdone come attore, scrittore e regista dopo gli anni televisivi. Diretto nel 1980 da Carlo Verdone, sceneggiatura di Carlo Verdone, Leo Benvenuti, Piero De Bernardi, fotografia di Ennio Guarnieri, montaggio di Eugenio Alabiso, musica di Ennio Morricone, produzione Sergio Leone, distribuzione Medusa-Pentavideo, interpretato da Carlo Verdone, Isabella De Bernardi, Mario Brega, Renato Scarpa, Veronica Miriel, Luciano Bonanni, Filippo Trincia, Filippo Ciro, Sandro Ghiani, Fausto Di Bella, Pietro Zardini, Maria Mizar Ferrara.

Trama

In una Roma semi deserta, durante un agosto bollente, vengono  raccontate le vicende dei tre personaggi principali. Enzo, un giovane spavaldo cui piace raccontare le sue galanti avventure con le donne, è intenzionato ad arrivare con la sua automobile sportiva fino a Cracovia. Enzo è in cerca di un compagno di viaggio. Dopo una lunga ricerca, riesce a convincere l’amico Sergio che però ha un malore appena usciti dalla capitale. Così Enzo deve trovare al più presto un rimpiazzo.

Leo è un giovane impacciato che vive a Trastevere con la madre, che lo aspetta al mare per passare Ferragosto assieme. Il ragazzo viene però bloccato da Marisol, una bella turista spagnola che gli chiede aiuto. Timido e ingenuo, Leo si trova costretto a ospitare in casa l’esuberante straniera. Ma proprio quando tra i due sembra nascere del tenero, ecco che arriva il fidanzato di lei…

Dopo una lunga permanenza in una comunità di hippie, Ruggero e la sua ragazza Fiorenza arrivano a Roma. Lì il ragazzo rincontra il padre che li invita a casa. L'uomo spera di convincere il figlio a ritornare sulla retta via, contando sull'aiuto di padre Alfio e del professor Anselmo.

Musica

Ennio Morricone ha collaborato per la prima volta con Carlo Verdone per Un sacco bello scrivendo una OST molto gradevole che accompagna le situazioni di ogni episodio. Un ritmico pezzo funky (Tr. 1) apre il film e il nostro CD, ma la colonna sonora è basata su variazioni del tema di Marisol, (la ragazza Spagnola) che Ennio Morricone varia con differenti strumentazioni: ritmico e vivace (Tr. 2), lento e nostalgico per flauto e chitarra (Tr. 3), romantico e sognante eseguito dall’orchestra (Tr. 4, Tr. 7), lento ritmico con moog (Tr. 5). Una samba per tromba con sordina, ritmi e moog descrive l’atmosfera di un salotto borghese (Tr. 6). Il finale del film vede protagonista il fischio inconfondibile di Alessandro

Alessandroni e il flicorno di Oscar Valdambrini accompagnati dall’orchestra (Tr.12). All’epoca la Cinevox Record pubblicò un 45 giri (MDF 127) con i brani “Un sacco bello (Titoli di coda)” e “Un salotto borghese”. Bisogna aspettare il 2002 quando la Cinevox Record pubblicò un CD (MDF 352) intitolato BIANCO ROSSO E MORRICONE con selezioni da “Un sacco bello” e “Bianco rosso e verdone”. Per questa nuova edizione CD (40:00) abbiamo potuto accedere ai master stereo  di prima generazione della recording session che ci hanno permesso di scoprire tre brani inediti: una versione alternativa di “Un salotto borghese” e due bellissime versioni del tema d’amore vocalizzato da Nora Orlandi che riprende il motivo dei titoli di coda. Un disco per omaggiare l’arte di Ennio Morricone e di Carlo Verdone.

The plot

In a semi-deserted Rome during a hot August, the story of the three main characters is told. Enzo, a bold young man who likes to boast of his gallant adventures with women, plans to travel to Krakow in his sports car, so he seeks out a travelling companion. After a long search, he manages to convince his friend Sergio, who contracts an illness as soon as he leaves the capital city, so Enzo needs to find a replacement as soon as possible.

Leo is an awkward young man who lives in Trastevere with his mother, who is waiting for him by the sea to spend mid-August together. However, the young man is delayed by Marisol, a beautiful Spanish tourist who asks him for help. Shy and naive, Leo finds himself forced to host the exuberant foreigner at home, but just when something tender seems to be blossoming between the two, her boyfriend arrives…

Ruggero and his girlfriend Fiorenza arrive in Rome after a long stay in a hippie community. There, the boy meets his father, who invites them home. With the help of Father Alfio and Professor Anselmo, the man hopes to convince his son to get back on the right track.

The music

Un sacco bello marks the first collaboration between Ennio Morricone and Carlo Verdone, resulting in a very pleasant score that accompanies the situations of each episode. A rhythmic funky piece (Tr.1) opens both the film and our CD, but the bulk of the soundtrack is based on variations of theme for Marisol, the Spanish girl that Ennio Morricone describes with different styles and arrangements: rhythmic and

vivacious (Tr.2), slow and nostalgic for flute and guitar (Tr.3), romantic and dreamy performed by the orchestra (Tr.4,Tr.7), and a slow, rhythmic passage with moog (Tr.5). A samba for trumpet with mute,

percussion and moog describes the atmosphere of a bourgeois living room (Tr.6). The finale of the film features the unmistakable whistle of Alessandro Alessandroni and the flugelhorn of Oscar Valdambrini accompanied by the orchestra (Tr.12). At the time, Cinevox Records released a 45 rpm single (MDF 127) with the themes "Un Sacco Bello (Titoli di coda)" and "Un salotto borghese." Then, we had to wait until 2002, when Cinevox Records released a CD (MDF 352) entitled BIANCO ROSSO E MORRICONE, featuring selections from "Un Sacco Bello" and "Bianco Rosso e Verdone". For this new CD edition with a duration of 40:00, we were able to access the first generation stereo master tapes of the recording sessions, which allowed us to discover three unreleased tracks: an alternate version of "Un salotto borghese" and two beautiful versions of the love theme vocalized by Nora Orlandi, who carries the motif through the end credits. A fitting homage to the art of Ennio Morricone and Carlo Verdone.
